One of the best pieces of advice that anyone can follow before they move is to declutter. Clutter can add numerous boxes to any move. Thus, it is always best to simply get rid of those items that you are no longer needing. However, for many people, decluttering before a move is the most stressful part of the move. Why is this? They may not want to part with any of their items. That is why we want to share the 5 rules of decluttering. If you follow these, you are going to find that what you move is what you need and use in  your home!

You Must Love It

The items that you keep must be those that you love. If you pick it up and it does not bring any love to you, then it should go in the trash or donate pile!

When was the Last Time the Item was Used?

Think about the last time in which this item was used. If the time frame is over a year ago, then you do not need it. Instead, opt to donate or trash this!

Change your Mindset

Know that decluttering is going to require that you change your mindset. You need to keep into this mindset in order to avoid having more items pile up in your new home!

Make Sure to Get the Family Involved

You will want to get the family involved in the decluttering process! This way everyone is actively involved in the moving process.

Start with the storage spaces

This does not mean that you should go out and purchase tote boxes and other items to store more items. This is not decluttering! You want to go through the storage places you have and get rid of those items that you no longer need. There is no point in packing items that you have had in storage for five years, with no intentions of using within the next five years.
