What do you feel once you have moved into a new home? Chances are the boxes are still everywhere, it is quiet, and you may feel as though you are disorientated. You have an uneasy feeling that we all have had at one point in time. How can you get over this feeling and feel more at home? We have a few tips for what to do once the movers have left!

Start Unpacking

Hopefully you packed you an overnight bag so that you are not seeking all these items desperately in the mountain of moving boxes that you may have. Once you are ready, start unpacking. You will find that if you devote hours of your time to this, you are going to get a lot done. A few tips:

-  Minimize distractions

-  Have a schedule for how long you are going to work

-  Start with the important rooms first

Explore your Neighborhood

Take a break from unpacking to explore your neighborhood. This is especially important if you have a pet that needs to get accustomed to the area. Take a walk, introduce yourself to the neighbors, find out where the hot spots in your neighborhood are. If you moved to your new location due to your job, be sure to make friends with your co-workers, they may have some good ideas as to what to do in the area or where the night life is happening at.

Drive Around the City

For those who are going to be relying on their personal car for transportation, take a day and drive around. This is important as you want to make sure that you know where you are going, know how the roads are and the like. This can be a great way to see landmarks or the like that your new city has to offer.

If you are new to the Long Island area, we welcome you here! And if we have helped to move you into your new home, don’t be afraid to ask one of our movers their recommendations for restaurants or things to do in the area.
