Moving is a process that many people dread. Not only do they dread the idea of having to pack all their belongings into boxes, but they also dread how much of a mess this causes. How many people have had to move during inclement weather only to find that their floors and carpets become soiled, slick and damaged? Maybe the weather wasn’t bad at all, yet you see that your floor has scratches that are going to require some buffing to get out. Protecting your floors while moving should be something that every homeowner is considering. Even if you are moving out of the home, you don’t want to leave a mess for the next homeowner. With this being said, we have a few tips that you can utilize to help you protect your floors!
- Be sure that you are never dragging furniture across the floor, as this can cause huge issues. Instead, carry those lighter pieces, use rubber wheeled dollies for those pieces that are larger.
- Be sure that you are using strong and sturdy boxes so that these items are never at risk to fall out of the box, causing damage to the floor.
- Be sure to use furniture sliders if you must slide this furniture on the floor.
- Be sure to place doormats at the front door and inside of the front door. A doormat can help remove moisture from feet, which helps to save your floor.
- Cover the parts of the floor that are being frequently walked, such as hallways with old rugs, floor runners, plastic film or other items. This way, you are ensuring that the floor has a great layer of protection on it.
Most important, if you are hiring professional movers, be sure that these professionals are aware of your home and are doing everything they can to ensure there is no damage to the floor or other areas of the home.
