There are several moving myths out there that make many people dread moving. Or those myths that make a person think that moving into a new home should be avoided. We have rounded up some common myths that are heard from those who have moved before or who are planning to move and evaluated whether these are true or not!
It is Cheaper to Move Yourself
This is a huge myth! Most people think that they can save tons of money by moving themselves versus paying a professional company to do this for them. The problem is that this is simply not true! When people say this, they are often thinking that they can pack this themselves and load this into a rental truck. However, they are not factoring in the cost/time of having to drive this rental truck, the cost of moving equipment like dollies, straps and the like. They are also not thinking about the wear and tear this will have on their own bodies…pros are always the go!
A Box is a Box…Anything Will Work for Packing
This myth, we kind of understand. A box is a box, right? Not necessarily when it comes to packing up and moving. Free boxes that you collect behind stores may work for some items, but there are times in which strong and brand-new boxes are going to be needed while packing. What happens when you use flimsy boxes is a moving disaster! Imagine boxes breaking while being carried outside, boxes dented upon arriving at your new home, items broken, and the list goes on. This is why a box is not just a box…not every type of box that you come across will work. Be sure that you are getting boxes that are going to protect your belongings!
Bonus Myth: There are several superstitions that surround moving that have been passed down through civilizations and cultures for years. One such myth/superstition: moving into a new home on a Friday or Saturday is bad luck. Our response to this is that these are some of the more popular move in days because people simply take a long weekend from work to handle this move!
