Are you planning a summer move? If so, you probably already know that the summer season is a popular time to relocate. Between the warm weather and longer daylight hours, summer makes moving easier. And for families with kids, school being out means more time to settle in before the new school year begins.
Moving always requires planning and coordinating, but being that summer is peak moving season, it would serve you well to stay organized and do a bit of extra planning. Below is our ultimate 2024 moving checklist to help you enjoy a stress-free move.

8 Weeks Before Moving Day- Declutter
Many people declutter their homes in the spring and summer months and if you have a move coming up, it is a great opportunity to declutter even more thoroughly than usual. Take stock of your things and plan to sell, donate, or throw away items that you don’t want to bring with you to your new house.
6 Weeks Before Moving Day- Host a Yard Sale
Hosting a yard sale is a great way to give your old things new life. Yard sales held in late spring and early summer are often well attended due to the nicer weather.
4 Weeks Before Moving Day – Gather Packing Supplies and Complete Paperwork
You don’t need to start packing quite yet, but getting a head start on purchasing your supplies will save you time and effort in the long run. Consider gathering the following items for a smooth move:
- Boxes

- Packing Peanuts
- Packing Tape
- A Box Cutter
- Mattress Bags
This is also a great time to complete your moving paperwork. From changing your address with the post office and setting up utilities and Internet to transferring medical records and enrolling in school, moving involves a lot of paperwork. We recommend making a list and taking it day-by-day.
3 Weeks Before Moving Day – Start Packing
Packing is one of the most tedious moving tasks, but getting an early start on it will make your move stress-free. Be sure to label your boxes by room and plan out what essentials you will be bringing with you personally.
